Model guide · 2nd generation (GE)
2009–2013 Honda Fit
The second-generation Fit is a five-door hatchback with a 117-hp 1.5-liter engine and a rear Magic Seat that folds flat in one motion for 57.3 cubic feet of space. People buy it for easy city driving, low running costs and a cargo area that feels too big for such a small car.

Capability2
117-hp i-VTEC engine, manual or automatic
A 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder makes 117 hp and runs on regular gas. Every trim offers a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, and Honda lists no scheduled tune-ups for about 100,000 miles.
Paddle shifters on the automatic Sport
Fit Sport models with the automatic have dual-mode paddle shifters on the steering wheel and a gear indicator, so you can pick gears yourself on hills or twisty roads.
Safety4
Six airbags, ABS and ACE body structure
Every one has front, front side and side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, anti-lock brakes with brake distribution, a tire pressure monitor and Honda's ACE body structure for frontal crashes.
Stability control on every Fit
From 2011, Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control is standard on every Fit. It helps keep the car stable and on course if the tires start to slide.
IIHS Top Safety Pick
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2009 Fit a Top Safety Pick, with Good ratings in its front, side and head restraint tests.
IIHS Top Safety Pick
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2012 and 2013 Fit a Top Safety Pick, which called for Good ratings in its front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
Space2
Magic Seat folds flat in one motion
Pull one lever and the 60/40 rear seat dives flat, even with the front seats all the way back, for 57.3 cubic feet. The cushions also flip up for tall items, and a long-object mode makes room for long ones.
Hidden bin under the rear seat
A storage compartment sits under the rear seat on the driver's side, a handy place for an emergency kit or anything you'd rather keep out of sight. There are 10 cup and bottle holders in the cabin.
Tech2
Aux jack on every Fit, USB on most
Every Fit of this generation has an auxiliary audio jack and plays MP3 and WMA discs. A USB port for iPods and flash drives came on the Sport from 2009 and on every Fit from 2011.
Factory navigation with voice control
The Fit Sport could be ordered with Honda's satellite navigation, which has a 6.5-inch screen and voice recognition. From 2012, cars with it also have Bluetooth hands-free calling.
Good to know2
Ask us about airbag recall work
Honda recalled 2009–2013 Fits to replace the Takata driver airbag inflator, and many, depending on the state, for the passenger inflator too. The repair is free at Honda dealers. Ask us for this car's recall history.
Other recalls worth checking
Other recalls covered VTEC springs on 2009–2010 cars, stability-control software on 2012–2013 cars, and drive shaft checks on cars from salt-belt states. Ask us what this car's records show.
Specs are the manufacturer's figures for this generation. Equipment varies by trim and year, so ask us about anything that matters to you on a specific car.
