Capability4

Cooper 1.6-liter

This car has the Cooper's 1.6-liter four-cylinder: 118 hp at launch and 121 hp from 2011, with 114 lb-ft of torque. It is the lighter, simpler choice for everyday driving.

On the Cooper

Turbocharged Cooper S

This car has the Cooper S twin-scroll turbo 1.6: 172 hp and 177 lb-ft at launch, and 181 hp from 2011 with overboost to 192 lb-ft. Its torque comes in at low revs, so it pulls well in town.

On the Cooper S

John Cooper Works performance

This car is a John Cooper Works: 208 hp and 192 lb-ft (207 on overboost), sport suspension, high-performance brakes and 17-inch wheels. Its stability control adds Dynamic Traction Control for controlled wheelspin.

On the John Cooper Works

Six-speed manual or automatic

Every 2007–2013 hatch has six gears: a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic on the Cooper and Cooper S. The John Cooper Works was manual-only until the 2013 model year.
