XT models use a turbocharged, intercooled 2.5-liter boxer rated at 224 hp and 226 lb-ft of torque. You feel it when merging onto the highway or climbing a mountain grade.
Safety2
Stability control and curtain airbags
Vehicle Dynamics Control stability and traction control is standard, along with side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and Brake Assist.

The IIHS named the Forester a Top Safety Pick for every model year from 2009 through 2013, with Good ratings in its frontal, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
Space2
Longer wheelbase, roomier cabin
This generation rides on a 103-inch wheelbase, 3.6 inches longer than before, which frees up rear legroom and cargo space. Fold the rear seat for up to 68.3 cubic feet.
Panoramic power moonroof
Premium trims and above offered a large panoramic power moonroof that fills the cabin with daylight and opens up the view for front-seat passengers.
Tech2
Bluetooth hands-free calling
Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity lets you take calls through the car's speakers. For 2011 it became standard on the 2.5X Premium and every trim above it.
Rear-view camera
A rear camera shows what is behind the car on the dash screen while you back up. From 2011 it was available on the Limited and standard on the Touring.
Good to know2
Timing belt or chain, by year and engine
2009–2010 non-turbo models and every turbo XT use a timing belt, which Subaru says to replace at 105,000 miles. 2011–2013 non-turbo models have a timing chain. Ask us what this car's records show.
Oil-use service bulletin (2011–2013)
