2018–2023 Subaru Crosstrek
The second Crosstrek moved to the Subaru Global Platform and kept 8.7 inches of ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive. Buyers pick it for its size, snow and trail confidence, and phone-friendly tech.

Capability4
All-wheel drive on every one
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard, along with Active Torque Vectoring, which helps the car hold your line through corners. A real help on snow, rain and gravel.
X-MODE for slippery, steep ground
Crosstreks with the CVT have X-MODE, which tunes the engine, transmission and AWD for low grip, plus Hill Descent Control to hold a slow, steady speed down steep grades.
The 2.5-liter engine: 182 hp
From 2021, Sport and Limited trims use a 2.5L engine with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque, always with the CVT. You feel it most when merging, passing and climbing grades.
Plug-in Hybrid: 17 electric miles
The Crosstrek Hybrid is a plug-in. On a full charge it can drive about 17 miles on electricity alone, at up to 65 mph, then runs as a hybrid. It tows up to 1,000 lb.
Safety3
EyeSight Driver Assist
Two cameras by the mirror watch the road. EyeSight can brake for you, keep pace on cruise control and help you stay in your lane. It came only with the CVT, standard on every CVT model from 2020.
Knee airbag and a stiff body
Front, side and side-curtain airbags are standard, plus a driver's knee airbag. The Subaru Global Platform underneath is a rigid structure built to absorb crash energy.
Blind spot and cross-traffic alerts
Blind Spot Detection warns of cars in the next lane, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert watches for traffic as you back out of a parking space. Standard on Limited, optional on others.
Space2
55.3 cubic feet with the seat down
There are 20.8 cubic feet behind the rear seat. Fold the 60/40 split seatbacks for a flat floor and 55.3. The plug-in Hybrid's battery sits under the cargo area, so it holds 43.1.
Roof rails on every trim
Every trim came with roof rails, ready for crossbars and racks for bikes, skis or a kayak. Handy when the gear outgrows the cargo area.
Tech1
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
The touchscreen runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so maps, music and messages work from your phone. A rear camera is standard too.
Good to know2
Timing chain, no belt to replace
The FB-series engines here use a timing chain, so there is no scheduled timing belt replacement. Regular oil changes still matter, so ask us what this car's service records show.
About the automatic (CVT)
Every automatic here is a Lineartronic CVT. Many trims add paddle shifters with seven preset steps you can pick by hand.
Specs are the manufacturer's figures for this generation. Equipment varies by trim and year, so ask us about anything that matters to you on a specific car.
